Meet Roydan's Youth Apprentice Max Schoepp

Investing in the next generation is a key part of our Roydan culture. With that in mind, we are thrilled to welcome Max Schoepp to the Roydan family as a Youth Apprentice from Manitowoc’s Lincoln High School. Max, who is a senior at Lincoln, joined us late last year. As part of his apprenticeship, he will be at Roydan each afternoon through the end of the school year.

While Max is planning to attend UW-Milwaukee this fall as a Computer or Software Engineering major, his love of programming didn’t take root until his junior year in high school. “I was introduced to programming in a class I took last year. Something just clicked and I realized that I could see myself doing it for a career.”

He joined the Youth Apprenticeship Program looking for a challenge to help him grow his programming skills. “I tried to take another programming class at school this year. About two weeks into the course, I realized that it was way too easy. My teacher suggested I get involved in the apprenticeship program.” From this interaction, he was introduced to Roydan, and as they say, “the rest is history.”

Max has already had some great hands-on experience in his time at Roydan. “I have had the opportunity to work on a project adjusting mail merge fields for specific functions, and I have also been able to shadow the developers and get a feel for what their days entail,” he adds.

In the short time that Max has been at Roydan, he has already learned a lot. One of the things that has been most beneficial for him is the aspect of working in an office and learning about business etiquette. He has also enjoyed the overall culture at Roydan. “Everyone is so friendly and helpful. They are always willing to point me in the right direction when I have a question.”

In addition to his love of computer programming, Max is also an avid runner as a member of the Lincoln High School Cross Country and Track teams. He also enjoys theater, and was recently involved in a production of Mama Mia.

Max’s biggest piece of advice to other kids who are considering the Youth Apprenticeship Program: just do it. “I would highly suggest it! It’s so beneficial because you’re not only getting the educational experience but also the real-life job experience.”

We are thrilled to have Max on our team and we can’t wait to see what amazing things he does in the future!
